Kayaking: Namequoit Point to Sampson Island

Home ⎟Hikes & Wanderings ⎟MassachusettsCape Cod⎟Kayaking Namequoit

Distance: 2 miles out & back

Time: varies

Difficulty: Easy and gentle most of the time, but check the weather & tide charts before going out. It’s no fun being stuck out on Sampson Island or in the middle of the water in a fog so dense you can’t see your own hand in front of you.

If you need to rent a kayak, head over to the Goose Hummock in Orleans on 6A.  They’re so friendly and helpful, I highly recommend them.

Directions to Trailhead: From Route 6 East, take exit 11. Turn LEFT at the end of the ramp onto MA-137, then take the first LEFT onto Pleasant Bay Road.  After a mile on Pleasant Bay, turn LEFT onto Orleans-Harwich Road/MA-39 North and follow for 2.5 miles, crossing Route 6A onto Quanset Road.  Turn RIGHT on Quanset and then take the first LEFT onto Portanimicut.  Follow Portanimicut Road to its end and park on the side of the road above the boat loading/unloading lot.
