Mount Mansfield via Hell Brook Trail

Home ⎟ Hikes & Wanderings ⎟ Vermont ⎟ Mt. Mansfield

Distance: 4.2 miles, roundtrip

Time: 5 hours

Difficulty: Strenuous

Elevation Gain: 2,600 feet

Description: This hike begins on Route 108 a few miles outside of Stowe, VT and climbs 2,600 feet to “The Chin” (summit) of Mount Mansfield.  It includes ascending the Hell Brook Trail and once on the summit, descending via the Long Trail.

Dog Friendly: Somewhat. Some technical climbing is involved along the Hell Brook Trail, since it really is 1.5 miles straight up, so it might be safer to leave the pup home for this one.

Trailhead Directions: From Stowe, take Route 108 out of the village and beyond the Stowe Ski Area. 0.5 miles beyond the Gondola House, you’ll see a trailhead parking area for the Long Path on your left. Just 1.5 miles beyond this you’ll find the Hell Brook Trailhead, a much smaller parking area also on your left.

Hike Directions: The trail starts by running parallel to Hell Brook, climbing 1.5 miles

Scenery: 10/10
