Description: From the Elk Pen Parking Lot off Arden Valley Road:  After parking your car, walk back to Arden Valley road and turn RIGHT on the WHITE-BLAZED Appalachian Trail as it runs with Arden Valley Road for 700 feet before passing through a gate and re-entering the woods to the RIGHT.  Stay on the AT for 1.66 miles passed the gate, then continue onto the RED-BLAZES straight ahead for 0.22 miles before meeting up with the WHITE-BLAZED White Bar Trail. Turn RIGHT onto the White Bar, going 0.87 miles before intersecting with the YELLOW-BLAZED Dunning Trail. Make a slight RIGHT to stay with the WHITE-BLAZES and after 0.71 make a sharp RIGHT to continue onto the WHITE-BLAZED NURIAN TRAIL (both the White Bar and Nurian Trail are white blazed so watch carefully for the sharp turn to your right.  Make the sharp RIGHT, follow for 0.45 miles to Island Pond Road, an unmarked, but well-worn footpath, and go 700 feet before turning RIGHT onto a second well-worn footpath, the Stahahe High Peak Path. Continue on the Path through a canopy of Rhododendron bushes for 0.46 miles to the summit.  To get back to your car, retrace your steps on the Stahahe High Peak path and Island Pond Road, and turn LEFT on the WHITE-BLAZED Nurian Trail.  Stay on the Nurian for 0.82 miles, passing through the Valley of the Boulders, then make a RIGHT on the RED-BLAZED Stahahe Brook Trail. Go 0.69 miles until an intersection with the (also) RED-BLAZED Arden Surebridge Trail, and continue for 0.4 miles straight/slightly LEFT as you follow the RED BLAZES back to your car.

* The shortest route is 2.24 miles to Stahahe High Peak: Park at White Bar parking area on Route 106, and find the WHITE BLAZED White Bar Trail. Follow them across 206 (going north) into the woods.  In 0.18 miles, you’ll reach unmarked Island Pond Road.  Turn LEFT here and follow Island Pond Road for 0.48 miles before making a sharp LEFT onto the Stahahe HP Path. Continue for 0.46 miles to your destination, then retrace your steps back to your car.
