Located 6 hours north of NYC and 2 hours south of Montreal, the Adirondacks offers endless opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast as the largest state-protected park in the United States (bigger than the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Glacier NP & Yosemite combined. The Easter High Peaks Region of “ADK” contains 46 mountains over 4,000 feet, including Mount Marcy, New York’s highest mountain. Anyone at any level of hiking proficiency can enjoy something here. Trails range from gentle lake and forest walks, to challenging day-long rock scrambles — so choose well and wisely. Dogs are welcome in the park, but must be on a leash near campgrounds, lean-to’s, etc. Additionally, though dogs have been on every trail, some trail routes are less suitable than others, some requiring technical climbing and ladder ascent/descent. Please refer to the “Dog Notes” on each hike page for pertinent information for you and your pup.
