Windham High Peak

Home ⎟  Hikes & Wanderings ⎟  New York ⎟  Catskills ⎟  Windham High Peak

Distance: 6.4 miles, out and back

Time: 3.5 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

Elevation Gain: 1,475 feet

Hiking the Blackheads and including Windham High Peak: 13.22 miles (one-way) + 8 “strenuous” hours — The first time I hiked the Blackhead Range and Windham together as a day-long (or rather long day…) hike. This is a good idea if you’re trying to “bag” the Catskill 3500 peaks or want to travel the lesser known northern reaches of the Escarpment Trail.  Otherwise, I’ve found it’s much more enjoyable hiking the Blackheads and Windham as two separate hikes, or an overnight backpacking trip. Dog Notes: Good for dogs as a 6.4 mile hike, but if you’re including Windham, make it an overnight trip or leave the pup at home.

Hike Directions: From the Peck Road Trailhead, follow the YELLOW BLAZED Elm Ridge Trail 0.85 miles, the turn RIGHT at it’s intersection with the BLUE-BLAZED Escarpment Trail.  Follow the Escarpment Trail 2.35 more miles to the summit of Windham.  Return the way you came.

Add-On: Continue beyond the summit on the Escarpment Trail to Burnt Knob and Acra Point, 3.4 miles one-way from summit to Acra Point (adding 6.8 more miles roundtrip).
