Distance: 3.3 miles; out & back
Time: 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 900 feet
Driving Directions: Heading north on the New York State Thruway, take exit 16 and continue onto NY 17 West, pay the toll and take the exit to your immediate RIGHT for Central Valley. Turn RIGHT onto NY-32 North for 4 miles to Evans Drive, and park at the bottom of the drive under the large sign.
Hike Directions: Walk north on NY-32 for less than a quarter mile to the railroad trestle. From the railroad trestle, walk underneath and catch the TEAL-BLAZED Long Path heading uphill on the north side of the trestle. After a tenth of a mile, meet the railroad tracks and follow straight ahead for 0.31 miles, before turning back away from the tracks. 0.8 miles after departing from the railroad, you’ll arrive at Little Knob, a nice little lookout over Monroe, NY. Continue on the teal blazed Long Path for just another 0.37 miles before reaching High Knob. There are views in almost all directions as you look north over Cornwall, NY toward the NYS Thruway. Beyond loom Mount Beacon, Fishkill Ridge, Storm King, Breakneck Ridge and Mount Taurus, the majestic Hudson River flowing through them toward both New York City and the Shawangunks and Catskills, eventually reaching the Adirondacks (on a clear day here, you’ll see as far as the Catskills from this spot). Retrace your steps back to NY-32, following the teal blazes south bound.
