The Blackhead Range

Check out the Blackhead Range hike in the Catskills! Directions and more information here. This hike is already going to take half the day, so it’s a great hike to do in tandem with Windham High Peak. It’s a grueling but excellent day! The first half of the hike is a relatively short rise to Windham Peak and then you’ll have a nice jaunt walking across the ridge. For the second half of the hike, you’ll be experiencing a lot of rises and falls as you cross the three adjacent mountains, Blackhead, Black Dome and Thomas Cole. But the falls aren’t as bad as they look, and the rises are well-worth it with the gorgeous scenery. From the peaks, you get a wonderful view of the Devil’s Path and the interiors of the Catskill Wilderness. Tackling Windham, you’ll garner great views of Albany and the plains of central New York. On a clear day, you can see the Adirondack mountains from you’re perch atop Windham! Overall, I’d do this hike again in a heartbeat, it was a great way to take time and spend a relaxing day.
